History

It was back in 1815 that brewing was established at the Cavendish Bridge Brewery (CBB) site at Sharlow, Leicestershire. One of the founders of the Brewery was John Eaton, a local Vicar in Shardlow for 40 years. In memory of his involvement with the brewery we have continued to brew a beer in his name.
Derby Brewery Offilers bought the 'CBB' in 1896 and continued to brew supplying the Leicester Pub Estate until 1923 when problems with beer quality led to the closure.

After some 70 years, Simon Platt then re-introduced brewing to the site in 1993 in the Old Kilnhouse. Subsequently, the Shardlow Brewery was taken over in 1996 is now owned and operated by the Morgan family who moved brewing to the Old Stables on the same site. The owner, Ron Morgan, who owns both the Shardlow Brewery & The Blue Bell Inn has been instrumental in the success of both the brewery & the pub. His son Kev Morgan is Head Brewer who, along with Simon Morgan, Ron's grandson, produce an excellent range of traditional beers for, not only The Blue Bell Inn, but a wide variety of outlets including a number of Real Ale pubs & J D Wetherspoons.
By far the biggest selling beer is the Reverend Eaton's rated at 4.5% A.B.V. Being the Brewery Tap, the Blue Bell is renowned for the 'Rev'. It is a hugely popular beer & outsells all other beers on offer at the pub. People visit from miles around to sample this smooth premium bitter.
In addition to the standard range of ales which include Narrowboat, Golden Eye, Stedman's Tipple & the Award Winning Whistle Stop, the Brewery also has seasonal and monthly special brews available.
